Standard is RentRivals' default board, and for most players it's the sweet spot. It uses two tracks: the familiar 40-space main board, plus a raised Bonus tier stacked one storey above it. The two levels are connected by staircases, so your piece can climb between them as you play. Everyone starts with $1,500.
The upper level isn't just decoration — it's a second ring of premium properties (think the pricier world cities, plus their own card and event spaces) that gives you more streets to buy and more sets to chase than Classic offers. It also adds routes: with two connected loops, the path your piece takes around the board is richer, and property near the busy junctions sees more traffic than a flat map would suggest.
Movement between the tiers happens at the staircases. When you reach one, the dice decide: roll an even number and you climb (or descend) to the connected tier; roll odd and you stay on your current level. Learning where the staircases connect — and which properties sit near them — is a genuine edge, because those junctions funnel pieces past certain streets more often.
The Standard board also brings the market to life. On the Bonus tier you'll encounter economy events that change the rules for everyone at once: a Market Crash can send unowned property prices tumbling, and Rent Inflation can spike every rent on the board for a few rounds. Reading these — buying cheap in a crash, dodging owned streets during inflation — is part of the strategy the bigger boards reward.
With more properties in play, you can afford to build a broader portfolio — but the fundamentals still rule: complete color sets and build on them fast. Use the extra streets on the Bonus tier as trade material, and pay attention to the staircase junctions when deciding which sets are worth the most. Keep a healthy cash cushion, because the economy events can turn a comfortable position tense in a single round.
