RentRivals keeps the heart of a classic property-trading board game โ buy streets, build, collect rent, trade โ but layers on twists you won't find on a standard board. Here's what sets it apart.
The headline act. Flip on AI Chat and the CPU players haggle in the in-game chat, powered by a large language model: ask Casey what she'd take for Singapore and she'll counter with a real offer โ a named street plus cash โ built from the live board. CPUs even open negotiations themselves ("What can I trade you for San Francisco?"). No other browser board game does table talk like this. Read all about AI Chat โ
The whole market can lurch mid-game. Economy events don't hit one player โ they change the rules for everyone at once, for a set number of rounds, and reading them right is half the strategy.
When a Market Crash strikes, the price of every unowned property collapses across the board โ and it gets worse each time it's triggered: first 50% off, then 75% off, and finally a fire-sale $10 each โ a full Total Collapse. It's the perfect moment to snap up deeds on the cheap. The catch: on the crash's final round the bank seizes any property you've left mortgaged, so clear those debts before the timer runs out.
Rent Inflation makes every rent on the board more expensive for 3 rounds โ and it stacks the more it fires: +25%, then +50%, then +75%. Landlords rake it in; anyone landing on owned streets pays dearly.
The nuclear option. During a Worldwide Depression, every property costs just $10 to buy and all rents jump +75% โ for a full 6 rounds. Empires are built and broken in a single depression.
The three-tier Extreme board adds a 56-space Ground Streets ring beneath the main board, packed with spaces that can rewrite the game in one turn.
Land on a Land Grab space (or draw the matching Surprise card) and you jump straight to the closest unowned property โ and get first crack at buying it before anyone else can.
The meanest space on the board. Landing on Forced Deal lets you buy any property that isn't part of a completed color set right out of its owner's hands โ at 10ร the printed price โ and they cannot refuse. Break up a rival's near-monopoly, or grab the deed you've been missing.
The bank simply hands you $500 on the spot. A welcome cushion right when a crash or depression is looming.
A supercharged salary corner worth $300 when you pass or land on it โ steady fuel for your next big purchase.
Draw a Mystery Box card for a random twist โ a payout, a fine, a sudden move, or something stranger. Scattered across every board, they keep even a quiet lap unpredictable.
Most property games stop at a hotel. RentRivals doesn't. Stack four houses, upgrade to a hotel, then top it off with a Skyscraper โ the highest building tier, worth about 40% more rent than a hotel. A fully built skyscraper corner can end a game in a single landing.
The board isn't flat. Standard and Extreme stack multiple rings into a "wedding-cake" tower linked by staircases: roll an even number at a staircase to climb (or descend) to the next tier, roll odd and you stay on your level. Each tier has its own streets, so where you are on the tower changes what you can land on โ and clever players learn which junctions the most traffic flows through. Transit spaces and the Subway let pieces hop across the board instead of walking every step.
At the end of each round the whole table drops into a quick head-to-head minigame โ reaction tests, puzzles, block-drop chains, claw grabs, even a hand of casino blackjack โ and the winner pockets a $20 in-game bonus before play resumes. Just want the minigames? The Minigame Arcade lets you play any of them solo against three CPUs, no board and no room required.
Pair up in Co-op Teams and you and your partner share one treasury and one property portfolio. Coordinate buys across the table, cover each other in an auction, and complete color sets twice as fast โ a completely different game from every-player-for-themselves.
